Honda Smart Intersection: Here’s that this brand’s new V2X technology works


Autonomy obtained care of. Honda is working on a strategy to that.

Called a wise intersection, Honda installed four cameras into a traffic light inside the small capital of scotland- Marysville, Ohio, near its engineering center and proving ground. That come with a 5.9-GHz system named Dedicated Short Range Communication, or DSRC, the cameras send a sign with an aftermarket computer and head-up display, currently inside about 200 Honda employee cars. DSRC incorporates a range of about 328 feet (100 meters) and can tell the head-up display of potential hazards the fact that car alone cannot “see.”

Here is the place where it really works: Cameras send data constantly. The connected cars get the signal, and software creates a 360-degree image of the intersection that classifies vehicles along with moving objects such as pedestrians, motorcycles and emergency vehicles. The machine then analyzes and broadcasts any pertinent information towards display, also adding audio cues.

While this really is clearly all prototype stuff, Honda considers it completely functional and gave journalists an indication ride in a Honda Pilot. Three scenarios competed before us: anyone crossing the road nearby even as we are turning right; an ambulance driving through, both with and without lights running (the program only reacts when lighting is on); and yet another car running a red light. Every time, the head-up display shows the sort of hazard just about to happen along with a female voice says either “person crossing, look at surroundings,” “emergency vehicle nearby” or “vehicle approaching intersection.” 

This is an demonstration of V to X technology, where the roads themselves enlist with the connected automation technology. Precisely what Honda commenced do worked.
